Defibrillator

Offwell Parish Council, together with The Community Heartbeat Trust, installed a defibrillator (AED) in the village telephone box. The AED is housed inside the yellow box and this is now ready to be used by anyone within the community to deal with a sudden cardiac arrest. A VETS team (Volunteer Emergency Telephone System) is now in place in Offwell. VETS is a community run system and enables the volunteers to fetch the defibrillator and assist with a sudden cardiac arrest.

(Housed in the red Phone Box opposite Offwell Primary School)

** The Defibrillator is available for any member of the public to use**

1 – In the event of a cardiac arrest emergency your first call is 999
2 – The Ambulance Service will give you the access code to the box
3 – The caller or the Ambulance service will call the Offwell VETS volunteers on 01404 565911
4 – The first volunteer to answer the call will bring the defibrillator to you. Be sure to state clearly your name and where you live. If no volunteers are available the caller will be reassured that an ambulance is on its way.

All households should have a general information sheet about the VETS system as well as a bright red ‘message bug’ which details the phone number to call – it would be a good idea to stick this on your main ‘phone or on the fridge. Speedy response in an emergency can make the difference between life and death. Trying to remember where you have put the phone number could waste valuable time. If you do not have the information sheet or a message bug and would like one then please call Marian on 831066.

Please note:
If the Defibrillator is removed from the Phone Box for any reason, even if it’s not actually used, it needs to be checked, cleaned and recommissioned. The person to contact as soon as possible, is Tina on 07802 875542.

The VETS number is 01404 565911
